I. Profile

Nanchang Institute of Technology (NIT), located in Nanchang City, the provincial capital of Jiangxi Province, is a public institution jointly built in cooperation with People’s Government of Jiangxi Province and the Ministry of Water Resource. Standing out itself as an undergraduate higher institution with distinctive characteristics of water conservancy, NIT boasts its preponderant discipline of engineering, but coordicates its multi-disciplinary development with that of management, science, agriculture, liberal arts, economics, fine arts etc.. NIT provides 57 undergraduate programmes, including Hydraulic and Hydro-Power Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Design, Manufacturing and Automation, Communication Engineering, E-commerce, Financial Management, Musicology, etc., among which the programme of Hydraulic and Hydro-Power Engineering has been certified national professional accreditation for engineering education. NIT also offers 3 programmes for master’s degree, including Hydraulic Engineering, Management Science and Engineering as well as Electronic Information.

Currently NIT is with over 18,000 full-time students including more than 500 postgraduate students. Covering an area of 136.46 hectares, NIT now has 1,365 faculty members and 16 schools (faculties), i.e. Graduate School, School of Hydraulic and Ecological Engineering, School of Civil and Architectural Engineering, School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, School of Information Engineering, School of Business Administration, School of Economics and Trade, School of Humanities and Art, School of Science, School of Foreign Languages, School of International Education, School of Marxism, Faculty of Physical Education Teaching, School of Non-commissioned Officer, Yaohu School, and School of Continuing Education.

II. Length of Schooling

NIT provides both postgraduate and undergraduate programmes for international students in 2021 (refer to programme list in this brochure). The basic length of schooling for postgraduate programme is 3 years, while that for bachelor program is 4 years. Students will be conferred Graduation Certificate and Degree Certificate after obtaining all required credits in their courses, completing their thesis and passing the vivavoce. The mode of study is full time.

Boarding Fee

1,500 yuan for every person every semester for double room, 3,000 yuan every academic year; 3,000 yuan for every person every semester for single room, 6,000yuan every academic year (facilities equipped in the room are internet interface, private bathroom, water heater, public laundry; air conditioner (rent needed); self-paying for the expenses for water, electricity and internet)

 

Admission Category

1. Degree Students (refer to III for Admission Programmes)

Undergraduates: four-year length of schooling, the new semester will begin in September.

postgraduates: three-year length of schooling, the new semester will begin in September.

2. Language or Subject students (not with a degree)

Language students: The duration of study could be one semester or one academic year.  The new semester will begin in September, and students will join in a class according to their Chinese proficiency.

Subject training students: The duration of study could be one semester or one year, two years, etc., and students will choose subjects to study and will join in a class according to their language ability.

Exchange Students Program: subject to specific cooperation agreement.


Application Qualification

All the applicants must be non-Chinese citizens at the age of 18 or above, holding valid foreign passports, with healthy condition, good behavior, without criminal records, and willing to obey Chinese laws as well as the rules and regulations of NIT, and respect the manners and customs of Chinese people.

Other requirements include:

1. Language Students

Having degree of senior high school or above, under the age of 35.

2. Undergraduate Students

(1) Having degree of senior high school or above recognized by Chinese educational body. Candidates are required to have GPA over 70 or ranking in the first 30% according to the scoring standards of different countries.

(2) Under the age of 25.

(3) Candidates who apply for programmes taught in Chinese shall submit HSK 4 or above certificates. Those who did not passed HSK 4 can apply to study as a language student for half a year or one year. They can be transferred into programme study after they pass HSK 4.

(4) Applicants for English-taught programmes are required to offer a TOFEL test result with more than 80 or IELTS more than 6.0, or provide relevant certificate certifying that English is the language for their learning or working.

3. Postgraduate Students

(1) With bachelor’s degree recognized by Chinese government and passing the interview of  NIT experts.

(2) Under the age of 35.

(3) Candidates who apply for programmes taught in Chinese shall submit HSK 4 or above certificates. Those who did not passed HSK 4 can apply to study as a language student for half a year or one year. They can be transferred into programme study after they pass HSK 4.

 Application Procedures

Period of Application: from March 20, 2021 to July 1, 2021

Note: If you intend to apply for scholarship, please submit relevant materials as required by the application for scholarship before May 31, 2021.
 

Application Requirements

(I) Applicants shall log in http://international.nit.edu.cn/index.htm and click “apply” to submit the application materials online. Application can also be emailed to International Office of NIT, and the E-mail address is internationaloffice@nit.edu.cn. The required application materials include:

  •         Photocopy of the passport
  •        The highest education certificate (certified by the Chinese Embassy)
  •        Academic Transcript
  •       Foreigner’s Physical Examination Form (including the certificate of negative testing result of COVID-19 nucleic acid test)
  •      Certificate of No Criminal Record (certified by the Chinese Embassy)
  •      Results of Chinese or English language (or relevant materials certifying the instruction language being English)
  •      Proof of funds (RMB 30 thousand yuan at least)

(II) NIT will verify the materials submitted by the students online to decide whether admitting the applicant.

  The admitted applicant will receive Letter of Admission and Form JW202 used for applying visa for coming to China.

It takes at least four weeks from the applicant putting forward the application and being admitted to the mailing of the Letter of Admission.

During the period, we will inform you via email of the supplementary materials needed.

If the applicant is admitted, we will email the applicant and admit the applicant via application platform for studying in China.

The admitted students should register in NIT as scheduled with Letter of Admission, Form JW202, original documents of the latest education certificate and academic transcript; if failing to get the visa in time, the student shall contact our office to help get the visa as early as possible.

Interview is required for master students, and we will arrange online video interview after verifying the materials. We will inform you via email of the contents and requirements for the interview and please reply at your earliest convenience.
 

 Admission
        
After receiving the complete materials of the applicant, NIT will verify the application materials and admit the outstanding. If the applicant is admitted, we will issue print-out Letter of Admission and Visa Application Form for Study in China (Form JW202) to students.

The admitted shall go to the Chinese Embassy (Consulate) in foreign countries to handle visa for study in China (X1) with ordinary passport, Letter of Admission, Visa Application Form for Study in China (Form JW202), and etc., and handle registration procedures in NIT with the above materials as well as the original documents of the latest education certificate and academic transcript as per the date stipulated on the Letter of Admission. We will cancel the student’s study qualification if we find any fraud in the above materials.

Students must inform us of the arrival date before coming for registration so that we can make relevant preparations. We offer pickup service for overseas students coming to NIT for registration within the prescribed time for free, please tell us the detailed arrival information via email (internationaloffice@nit.edu.cn) three working days in advance. Please avoid coming for registration on vacations and weekends or at nights so as not to delay your registration procedures.

We will organize the admitted students to attend enrollment verification organized by us within one week after the registration, and no school record registration will be granted for those who not passing the verification. We will organize the admitted students to accept physical examination in Jiangxi Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau within one month after the registration, and no school record registration will be granted for those who disqualified for the physical examination and they will be repatriated immediately.
 

 Registration

The registration time varies every year according to the beginning of the new semester, and NIT will specify the registration time in the Letter of Admission. Registration requirements are as follows:

Please bring all the original documents specified in the “Notes” of the Letter of Admission for inspection.

After obtaining the visa, an email must be sent to NIT to confirm the registration matters concerned.

Please come to NIT for registration immediately after entering the country (excluding the isolation for the outbreak) and you are not allowed to stay in other places without a justifiable reason. If you need to stay in other places for some reasons, you must arrive at NIT within 5 days after entering the country. Otherwise, NIT does not ensure that the residence permit can be obtained for them within 30 days after entering the country, and the students shall bear full responsibility.

Non-working time is not available for registration, and it includes weekends, nights, and public holidays. If students fail to register for accommodation within 24 hours or cause other problems due to arriving at NIT during the non-working time, students shall bear full responsibility.

NIT requires all the students to pay tuition, boarding fee and insurance expenses at the time of registration. These costs will not be deducted from the scholarship. Please make financial arrangement well before entering the country.

Students’ majors, instruction languages, and fee standards in NIT are subject to the Letter of Admission of NIT. If you have any question, please send an email to NIT for confirmation.
 

Special Notes

NIT will retain the admission qualification for the overseas students who have been admitted by NIT but are unable to come for study due to the pandemic for one year, and they may start school in September 2022.

Other Expenses

Board expenses, on-campus medical expenses, textbook fees and expenses for experiment, internship and major visit beyond teaching program shall be paid as per the standard stipulated by NIT.

Note: Students are required to pay up the tuition and boarding fee upon registration. In case of any special circumstances, students should promise in written form to pay up the tuition and boarding fee within one month and no later than November 30, otherwise, he/she will be dropped out. Those who refusing to pay the money without any special circumstances will not be registered and must leave NIT and come back to their home countries within 5 days. Due to the financial procedure, the scholarship will be paid about 1 month after the enrollment of all the freshmen. Please make the financial arrangements well.

 

Insurance

NIT requires all the international students to buy insurance for the studying period in China,  including accident insurance and medical insurance. These can be purchased before or after coming to China. Insurance premium bought after reaching NIT is 800yuan/year.

NIT will not go through registration procedures for those who do not buy medical insurance.

 

 

Scholarship

In order to encourage excellent foreign students to study in NIT, we have set up “Excellent Freshmen Scholarship for International Students”, “Academic Scholarship for International Students”, “HSK Outstanding Scholarship”, and “Scholarship Offered by Jiangxi Provincial Government for Outstanding International Students”.

i.Excellent Freshmen Scholarship for Overseas Students. This scholarship is used as a reward for undergraduate students, postgraduate students and language students of longer than one semester program studying in NIT. Students with GPA over 70 or ranking in the first 30% of graduated institution may apply for the scholarship together when applying for studying in NIT.

   1. Scholarship for undergraduate students is 10,000yuan/person;

  2. Scholarship for postgraduate students is 15,000yuan/person;

  3. Scholarship for langugae students and subject raining is 4,000 yuan/person/semester, 8,000yuan/person/academic year.

ii.Academic Scholarship for International Students. This scholarship is used as a reward for excellent undergraduate students and postgraduate students in their second year and above, and subject training students for longer than one academic year program studying in NIT. Students entering each programme for studying after passing HSK 4 and meeting other requirements for scholarship can apply for the scholarship.

1. The first-class scholarship is RMB15,000yuan/person/year.

2. The second-class scholarship is RMB10,000yuan/person/year.

3. The third-class scholarship is RMB8,000yuan/person/year.

iii. HSK Outstanding Scholarship. All the international students obtaining HSK certificates of levels 4, 5 and 6 during the period of studying in NIT will be awarded with HSK Outstanding Scholarship. Students obtaining one of HSK certificates of levels 4, 5 or 6 will obtain the rewards of RMB 500yuan, 800yuan and 1,000yuan respectively.

iv.Scholarship Offered by Jiangxi Provincial Government for Outstanding International Students. Three classes of standards are set up for the scholarship, specifically as follows:

Class-A Scholarship: 25,000 yuan for each winner, offered to outstanding international students in their doctor’s/master’s education in Jiangxi.

Class-B Scholarship: 20,000 yuan for each winner, offered to outstanding international students in the process of their bachelor’s education in Jiangxi.

Class-C Scholarship: 6,000 yuan for each winner, offered to excellent international students having education in higher institutions in Jiangxi.

NIT will choose qualified students each year in line with the assessment requirements of the Provincial Government Scholarship.
